Meet Greg Simas - Pro Rodeo Announcer
In one of life’s happy accidents, rodeo announcing found Greg Simas. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Greg was a bullrider for the Military Rodeo Cowboys Association in the early 1990s. In 1999 he was honorably discharged, and by 2000 he had gotten on his last bull.
But Greg loved rodeo and still attended weekly jackpots with his friends in Union Bridge, Maryland. One night the rodeo announcer was sick, and the ranch foreman asked Greg to fill in. “Since it was a small deal with maybe 50 spectators and 20 contestants, I didn’t have a problem with it and grabbed the mic,” he recalls. After that, he was asked to announce a few more events, and figured that would be the end of his announcing career.
In 2002, however, calls started coming in, and at that point, Greg quit his “day” job and started rodeo announcing full time. Since then, he’s quickly amassed some impressive credits. He has announced the Pennsylvania High School Rodeo Finals five times, and was the Contracts Act Showcase Champion in 2006. Also in 2006, he turned Pro with the PRCA, and will be behind the mic for the third straight year in Farmington, NM at the National High School Finals Rodeo in 2008.
At this point, Greg is announcing at over 100 performances a year. Greg announced the International Finals Rodeo 37 in Oklahoma City, OK in January 2007, 2007 Dodge First Frontier Circuit Finals Rodeo Announcer and has been selected to call the action for the 2008 Dodge First Frontier Circuit Finals Rodeo in Harrisburg, PA. Local rodeo fans will recognize him from Painted Pony Championship Rodeo in Lake Luzerne, where he’s announced for the past three years as well as the Adirondack Stampede PRCA Rodeo in Glens Falls, NY. Greg is dad to five year old son Tyler, and lives with his Wife Jen in Danville, Pennsylvania.
Greg joins us as our Pro Rodeo Announcer and Master of Ceremonies and is THE VOICE of the New England Wild West Fest™. Visit Greg's website at www.GregSimas.com.
